anyone know what a 1692 a or b is..looks stereo to me? theres a a nice ashly on fee pay a 508 model..but would rather stay altec,, running a samson mixer now

It looks exactly like this, but is still probably going to throw you with it's MONO inputs.

I assume you want to use this in a home sound system aka stereo system.

Consider the versatility a small console offers with it's low noise eq(some have a sweepable or parametric mid control) for each individual input as well as individual input gain controls for unlimited balancing of your STEREO inputs.

A small console will also have a "monitor" bus that can be used for record out to allow you to listen to one source while recording from another.

Or you can use the monitor outs to feed program material into another part of the home in a "dual zone" set up where both zones can play the same or different programs simultaneously.

The 1692 is a simplified version of a small console minus many of the features, but is still the same basic series of mono preamps connected to a stereo bus. The 1692 has a simple "assign" switch to determine whether the input goes to the left, right, or both sides of the stereo main bus, a small console uses a sweepable "pan" control to make this assignment.
